Big friendship book6/28/2023 I don’t know that we would have the same friendship, but I think that we would have met regardless. If that friend had not set us up, we would have eventually met somehow in the scene that we were in, in D.C. But there’s another story behind how you meet. When you tell the story of how you met, you tell this very superficial one line: “We met at this place, at this time.” That’s the meet-cute. So we were set up.īeck: My meta follow-up question to that is: How many times have you told that story now?Īminatou: My God, we’ve told that story too many times to count. Our mutual friend Dayo conspired to be the host that night in part so she could have both of us in attendance. Julie Beck: Let’s start at the beginning: How did you meet?Īminatou Sow: We met in Washington, D.C., in 2009, at a Gossip Girl viewing party.Īnn Friedman: But we also met because a friend very intentionally wanted us to meet each other. This interview has been edited for length and clarity. Aminatou Sow, 35, a co-author of Big Friendship, and co-host of the podcast Call Your Girlfriend, who lives in Brooklyn, New York. Ann Friedman, 38, a co-author of Big Friendship, and co-host of the podcast Call Your Girlfriend, who lives in Los Angeles, California.

Dragonfly book julia golding6/27/2023 Tashi was nice, but part of her personality was that she was very closed off and removed. For me, neither of those factors was met with Tashi and Ramil. They need to be interesting as individuals and there needs to be a spark between them. The hate-turned-love romantic device relies completely on the strength of the characters. I need to love my characters, especially in a book like this. The Cows by Lydia Davis6/27/2023 The piece, written with understated humor and empathy, is a series of detailed observations of the cows on different days and in different positions, moods, and times of the day. The Cows is a close study of the three much-loved cows that live across the road from her. Few writers map the process of thought as well as she, few perceive with such charged intelligence. Indeed, Lydia Davis is mathematician, philosopher, sculptor, jeweler, and scholar of the minute. "You read Lydia Davis to watch a writer patiently divide the space between epiphany and actual human beings by first halves, then quarters, then eighths, and then sixteenths, into infinity," says The Village Voice. Strange love by ann aguirre6/27/2023 Enemies heard the stories beforehand, so by the time he caught up with his quarry, they were sufficiently terrified to surrender at once. A name like that carried weight, dragged fear in its wake, and it usually meant there was no fight. The reputation came along with it, everyone his predecessors had hunted and killed, each trophy taken and reward collected. Or rather, the twelfth to inherit the name and suit from the bounty hunter’s guild. After that you'll have to subscribe or wait until 2022. This time, the hunter becomes the hunted in the wildly unpredictable game of love… *** Two new chapters will release every month in 2021. Yara doesn’t run from her problems, and Krag doesn’t know what to do with a human who seems more interested in what he looks like under his armor.
